Together with Finnish project development company Flexens, EnerKey has implemented a novel pilot project for the Government of Åland to analyse and store energy data on a society level. The goal is to provide a user-friendly, transparent, and automated way to follow the green transition on Åland in real-time.
As part of the ongoing Smart Energy Åland demonstration, the Government of Åland (ÅLR) appointed Flexens to implement a tool to better visualise the energy mix and its development over time. The project is part of the Government of Åland’s energy and climate strategy, with ambitious energy and CO2-targets for 2030.
“Correct political decision making requires data that is adequate, available and up to date. The reason behind the project is that so far it has been difficult to find an overview of the ongoing energy transition. Collecting and analysing energy data from different stakeholders has been a time consuming and manual process. As a result, it has been difficult to both access and update the data. Therefore we are looking forward to receive a highly automized tool to solve this problem and to improve our decision making process“, says Johnny Lindström, Head of Energy at Ålands Landskapsregering
The new system will both save time for collecting the data and create a basis for well-organised energy management by combining the actual consumption and production data with planned energy investments.

The Åland energy portal project is a new way of using the cloud-native Powered by EnerKey SaaS platform, allowing users to follow the energy transition on a society level. The goal of the Smart Energy Åland demo is to roll out validated solutions and new concepts to international markets. Flexens and EnerKey see the potential for implementing the solution in other locations since the clean energy transition is a global trend, and the actions need to be taken in several sectors. Besides, it is important to handle and store all the data from different sources in a secure manner.
